I sold my pottery studio.

As I sit down to write this, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions, excitement for the new chapter ahead and a touch of bittersweetness as I say goodbye to a place that has meant so much to me. My studio in Christchurch has been more than just a workspace; it’s been a hub of creativity, connection, and countless hours of hard work. But with our move to the picturesque St. Arnaud, I’ve decided to sell the studio and embrace a new way of working, one that allows me to truly focus on my craft.
When I first opened my studio, it was a dream come true. I envisioned a space where I could create, teach, and share my passion for ceramics with the community. And it was just that a space filled with the hum of pottery wheels and the shared laughter of workshops and classes. But as fulfilling as it was, running the studio came with its own set of challenges. Between managing schedules, being a mother and a wife, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the space was welcoming for everyone, I found my own creative time often took a back seat.
The decision to move to St. Arnaud came with a lot of reflection. Nestled in the heart of the Nelson Lakes, St. Arnaud offers a serene backdrop that feels like it’s been pulled straight from a painting. Here, I’ve found the perfect setting to return to the roots of why I fell in love with ceramics in the first place. Without the responsibilities of running a studio, I can now dedicate my energy to creating pieces that reflect my true vision. It’s an opportunity to focus deeply on the process, to experiment, and to refine my work in ways I couldn’t before.
This move also feels like a chance to reconnect with the timelessness that inspires me. My work has always been about creating functional, minimalist ceramics that endure pieces that future generations can hold and connect with. In the stillness of St. Arnaud, surrounded by natural beauty, I feel more inspired than ever to bring that vision to life.
While it’s hard to let go of the studio, I’m comforted by the thought that it will become a creative space for someone new. Christchurch has a vibrant arts community, and I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds for the studio and for me.
To those who supported my journey in Christchurch, thank you. Whether you attended a workshop, purchased a piece, or simply stopped by to chat, you’ve been part of a chapter I’ll always cherish. As I transition into this new phase, I’m looking forward to sharing my creations with you in a different way—pieces made with the quiet focus and inspiration that St. Arnaud brings.
